Who we are
When I was an adolescent, my parents had an antique wooden globe. Many of the land masses on this globe were still meager outlines, their interiors largely, enticingly blank. This globe was a talisman for me; the source of infinite journeys into uncharted territory. That territory was always filled with mythical creatures from the stories read to me from the very first days I could remember. When I became a reader I searched for and loved those monsters anywhere I could find them; Tolkien, Homer, Verne.
As a young adult, I studied comparative mythology at Syracuse University, receiving a Masters Degree from the Department of Religion, an academic pursuit spurred by my love of the stories that humans have told to explain away the edges of human understanding.
As an adult I turned my love of exploring to a career as a dive instructor - working and exploring the shores of Champ haunted Lake Champlain.
This site is an effort to bring all of my passions into focus, exploring the tales humans have told of underwater monsters, exploring both above and below the surface to find their significance and reminding ourselves of the wonder of the human imagination and the natural world
